Geospatial Jobs Portal : If you are in GIS subscribe to this newsletter

In recent years, India has graduated thousands of students in the field of GIS and Remote Sensing. The issue is that these graduates are unable to find work in their field of expertise. On the other hand, many GIS start-ups have been launched. Employees with desired GIS expertise are scarce in these organizations. Today, I'd like to propose a newsletter that serves as a link between start-up companies looking for ideal employees and recent GIS graduates. The URL is https://geospatial.substack.com/?nthPub=321 This newsletter publishes Situation Wanted opportunities in the field of GIS on a regular basis. Thanks, @Mrinmoy

Five GIS Objectives That Can be Achieved Through the Attribute Table

Image
Attribute Table Pre-requisites Attribute Table is a table where georeferenced data is stored for retrieval through geo-database. The data stored in the attribute table is used for the preparation of maps or geodatabases. When a shapefile is created a table can be connected to this file where relevant and related data of that feature can be stored. This data can be later used as a geodatabase or to create choropleth maps or any other related geospatial documents. To create an attribute table at-first shapefile needed to be created. There are three types of shapefiles: Point, Polyline, and Polygon shapefiles. Pont is created to digitize the location of a city, building, tourist spot, etc. Polyline shapefile is used to digitize rivers, canals, roads, rail lines, etc. Polygon is used to represent lakes, water bodies, watersheds, etc. Under each shapefiles, there can be many shape attributes. Normally for same kind of geographical features single shapefile is created. For river bodies in a ...

How to create attribute table in open source GIS software ?

Image
Map Window 5 is an open-source GIS software that has the capability to digitize maps, create a geodatabase, convert raster to vector, interactive maps, georeferencing of images, etc. The current tutorial demo the way you can create an attribute table with the help of MapWindow 5. The above three images depict the procedure to create an attribute table to store data into shapefiles which can be used for the creation of interactive or informative maps. The pdf version can be downloaded from here . Or Watch the YouTube Video here . This is an excerpt from the tutorial on GIS and Remote sensing available for Rs.70 at Instamojo . Five steps to convert paper maps to digitized data driven interactive spatial application

Image
Any paper maps can be converted into the digitized data-driven interactive geospatial application by following the five steps as given below : 1) Scan the map into TIF 2) Import into DIVA-GIS 3) Create shapefiles for Placemarks, Pipelines or Roads or River and Some Area like Ponds, lakes, stadiums, etc. 4) Create Attribute Tables linked to the shapefiles 5) Export the tables and the shapefiles into an AppConverter to produce interactive Geospatial Application The entire procedure or the steps of digitization of maps by DIVA-GIS is explained in the presentation that can be accessed by clicking in the link . or view the video about the same presentation. If any terms like shapefile or attribute table are not clear or known to you then see this presentation . How to select a "photo editing software" ?

Photo editing software is a tool to edit your photos. Often it is required to either resize or transform the image format or convert the same into different colour of the image. Many people use such software to enhance their photos for better presentability. Some use it for fun and some other will use it to send specific message. Nowadays such software are also used for different image processing related research works also. As usual there are many alternatives and it is often a difficult task to select the best out of them. Following points can help you in this regard: 1.    Look for the following features : a.     Image Capturing                                           i.    Rectangular Area                                          ii...

Process of pen stock digitization and its importance

Penstock carries the water from source to power house for generation of hydro power. The network of penstock and its health is required to be monitored. Real time monitoring systems and controlling of water flow through the penstock is important for maintaining the desired plant capacity of a hydro power plant. Digitization of the pen stock by GIS is the first step of this project. View it in Baipatra . After digitization the shape files can be used in any platform along with a condition monitoring model for proper maintenance of the "arteries" of the power plant. Happy GISing :) Regards, Admin,Baipatra http://www.baipatra.ws

Books,Presentations and Courses you may use to learn the basics of GIS and Remote Sensing

If you want to learn a new tool or technique you must collect a list of learning resources which will be easy to read and understand, easily available or downloadable and cheap or free of cost. Similarly if you want to learn about GIS and remote Sensing you must know what are the learning resources you must have in your bookshelf or laptop. A list of : 1.Books 2.Presentations 3.Videos 4.Courses that you may attend were recently published in the  Baipatra  home page. While preparing this the following factors were considered : 1.The list must not be extensive but selective. 2.Only the best resources will be included. 3.Cost of the same will be minimal or nothing. 4.Links will be active and usable. After considering all the above factors and conducting a search through the net and based on experience finally the list is prepared and presented to those who are really interested to apply the advantage of GIS and Remote Sensing in their research.
